Daughter of Najibullah Alikhel, Afghanistan’s ambassador to Pakistan was abducted and mistreated by unidentified assailants, the Afghan government said on Saturday, demanding full security for its diplomats in Pakistan.
The Afghan government called on the Pakistan to immediately take the needful actions to ensure full security of the Afghan Embassy and it’s Consulates, including immunity to the country’s diplomats and their families in accordance with international treaties and conventions.
The Afghan foreign ministry in a statement said that the diplomat’s daughter, Silsila Alikhil was on her way home when she was kidnapped for several hours and “severely tortured.”
After being released from the abductors’ captivity, the diplomat’s daughter is under medical care at the hospital, the statement added.
The Afghanistan ministry said it “strongly condemns this heinous act and expresses its deep concern over the safety and security of diplomats, their families, and staff members of the Afghan political and consular missions in Pakistan”.
Afghan foreign ministry urged Pakistan to “identify and prosecute the perpetrators at the soonest possible time
Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry said that the cops were investigating the “disturbing incident” and security had been tightened for the ambassador and his family.
Neighbouring countries, Afghanistan and Pakistan have long had frosty ties. While Kabul accuses Pakistan of allowing refuge for Taliban, Islamabad accuses Kabul of allowing militants to use their territory and carry out attacks in Pakistan.
However, both sides deny the charges.
