Israel-Hamas war Murderer of Muslim boy charged with hate crime

New York: A Muslim woman was attacked and her 6-year-old child murdered as a response to the conflict between Israel and Hamas rebels. The Illinois perpetrator has been charged with a hate crime in connection with the incident, authorities and Muslim rights activists said Sunday.

The incident took place on Saturday in Plainfield Township, about 64 km southwest of Chicago. The assailant stabbed the boy 26 times with a 7-inch knife. His mother was also stabbed multiple times. The Will County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement that the boy died in the incident and the mother is expected to survive.

The victims were Muslims. Investigators found that the brutal attack was in response to the conflict between Israel and Hamas. The perpetrator, 71-year-old Joseph Czuba, has been charged with murder, attempted murder, hate crime, and use of a deadly weapon.

It is also said that when the police rushed to the scene, Kzuba was sitting in front of the house where he had attacked.

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), which identified the dead boy as Wadaya al-Fayoum and the woman as Hanan Shahin, called on X to “stop the anti-Palestinian racism and anti-Isalmic attitudes spread by politicians, the media and social media”.
