North Tripura Violence: Mosques under police protection, strict vigil and control asserted by Police

Mosques in sensitive areas have been provided protection by the Tripura police, following the vandalisation of a mosque and setting two shops on fire in Chamtilla area situated in North Tripura, confirmed police sources. “All the mosques across the state are under security cover now. We are keeping a vigil on the situation,” PTI reported the statement of Police VS Yadav.

  Section144 CrPc has been imposed in the district to “maintain peace and harmony” news agency ANI reported quoting the SDM Dharamnagar, North Tripura.
  The state police has issued a warning against posting any provocative content on social media which could cause unrest while assuring that the situation is under control.

The incident occurred on Tuesday evening  as a Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) rally marched to protest against a succession of attacks carried out against Hindus amid the Durga Puja festivities in Bangladesh.

  Damaging of the mosque with stones and the the promt action of security personnel to bring the situation under control was also confirmed by the district superintendent of police Bhanupada Chakraborty.

The tweet issued by the Tripura police appealed to the public not to believe in any rumours and to maintain peace.
