The central government on Tuesday informed the Parliament that India witnessed 3400 cases of communal or religious rioting during the period 2016-2020.
Over 3,400 cases of communal violence have been registered in the country from 2016 to 2020, Union Home Minister for State Nithyananda Roy said yesterday. 857 cases in 2020, 438 in 2019, 512 in 2018, 723 in 2017, and 869 communal riots registered in the year 2016.
He added that 2.76 lakh cases of other riots were registered in the country during this period. He said there were 51,606 cases in 2020, 45,985 in 2019, 57,828 in 2018, 58,880 in 2017 and 61,974 cases registered in 2016.
