In a village in Madhya Pradesh’s Betul district, Bajrang Dal workers brutally assaulted a young man from a tribal community selling tea by hanging him upside down for refusing to pay a bribe.
In November 2023, there was a brutal attack on a tribal community youth named Ashish Kure, and a case was registered at the local police station regarding the incident. Now the entire video of the attack has gone viral on February 13.
Two activists of Bajrang Dal, who asked for a bribe to run a tea shop, first stripped Ashish Ukra and hung him upside down. Then brutally assaulted them with sticks and belts. The victim, Ashish Kore, runs a tea shop with his father.
According to the complaint made by Ukra to the police, one of the assailants, who had a gun, told the other assailant that he had killed him in the past. Because of this, the victim did not tell anyone.
After the video went viral, the victim informed his elder brother on February 13. Later, a detailed complaint was filed with the police. Bajrang Dal leader Chanchal Rajput and a complaint has been registered under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act regarding the incident.
State Congress chief Jitu Patwari strongly condemned the incident and expressed outrage at the increasing violence against Dalits and the tribal community.
In Madhya Pradesh, 11,384 cases of violence against Dalits were reported in 2022, while 11,171 cases were reported in 2023.
