Mangalore: Two inter-faith students assaulted in private bus by mob

A young man and woman have been reportedly assaulted in a private bus travelling from Mangalore on Friday, as the man belonged to Muslim community and the woman was a Hindu. According to the information, the two were classmates.

A video has gone viral on social media, which is very hateful and has caused widespread outrage against the act of the perpetrators.

In the video, some unseen men, allegedly from Sangh Parivar groups are heard asking for the students ID cards, and the man was also slapped by the abusers.

“Where are you both going? Why are you travelling together? Show your ID cards. We’ll inform at your home,” the mob are heard asking and later they slapped the young man.

The incident took place on the December 10 and both the students were on a private bus traveling from Mangalore to Udupi.

Talking to THG, Yaseen Kodi, a local from Udupi said, “I spoke to the Commisioner, he said that two men have been identified and arrested. They’re still looking out of others and strict action will be taken against them.”

As per reports, the woman was from Udupi and the man was from Shimoga district. Both were studying in a private college in Mangalore’s Vamanjoor village.

In a press conference by Mangalore police commissioner Shashi Kumar on Saturday, he said, “Most likely 5-6 people are involved in the case and only two have been arrested so far.”
