UP woman raped in moving car by army man, attempts suicide: Police

A 21-year-old woman was allegedly raped by a man in a moving car on Tuesday while they were travelling from Agra, police told PTI on Thursday. The man had met the victim through social media and won her confidence.

The woman allegedly attempted to commit suicide by consuming poison, but was rushed to hospital immediately. However, her condition is now stable, a senior police officer said.

When the accused, Tejveer, a resident of Palwal in Haryana, who is believed to be an army man accompanied the woman to Agra for her to appear in a sub-inspector recruitment exam. She was allegedly raped while returning and his driver continued driving the vehicle, Hindustan Times reported.

Later, the accused dropped the victim in the outskirts of Kosi Kalan. The main accused was arrested on Thursday, while his accomplice is still on the run, said Shrish Chandra, Superintendent of Police (rural).

He said, “A case has been registered under section 376 (rape) of Indian Penal Code against the accused and driver, Digambar, who drove the car when Tejveer raped the girl. Tejveer has been arrested,” Hindustan Times reported.

Both the accused are around 22-25 years old. Two teams have been formed to nab the absconder, he said.

On Wednesday, the woman was taken for medical examination and her statement under IPC section 161 was recorded, police said. The car used in the incident has been seized.
