OBCs not included in Women’s Reservation Bill: Rahul Gandhi expresses regret.

Amid ongoing debate on the women’s reservation bill in a special session of Parliament, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had on September 20 said he would support the bill. But he regretted that the reservation bill was ‘incomplete’ due to the lack of sub-reservation for other backward classes.

”This (Women’s Reservation Bill) is a big step. I am sure it is a very important step for the women of our country. But I want OBC reservation to be included in this bill. Otherwise it will be incomplete,” he said in the Lok Sabha.

While participating in the debate on the bill in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi said, “OBC reservation should also be allowed”.

“There is one thing that makes this bill incomplete in my view. I want to see OBC reservation included in this bill,” he said.

” There are 90 Secretaries of the Government of India… Out of 90 people, how many people are from the OBC community? I am shocked by the answer … only three secretaries are from the OBC community…”

“You (government) give only 33 percent reservation to women and implement this bill, no need for delimitation and census,” he said.

“Furthermore, as soon as the opposition raised the caste census, the BJP tried to create fresh confusion,” alleged Gandhi.

Talking about the new Parliament House, Rahul said that the President is a woman from a tribal community and it is appropriate that she should appear during the transfer to the new Parliament House.

“It’s a beautiful building but I would have liked to see the president here,” he said.
