100 Days of Farmers’ Protest

To mark the 100th day of the farmers’ agitation, protesting farmers’ unions decided to observe March 6 as the ‘Black Day.’

Since December, thousands of farmers have camped outside Delhi, protesting against the three farm laws that open up the agriculture markets to the private sector. The protest is carried out by farmers from across the country, mostly from Punjab, UP, and Haryana.

Even after several rounds of talks between the farmers’ representatives and the government, no conclusion has come out of the talks. The farmers are rigid in their demand to withdraw the three contentious laws.

While the government views these laws as key reforms, Farmers fear that the laws are vulnerable to corporate exploitation and dismantle the minimum support price regime.
