Another person infected with Nipah in Kozhikode; The number of active cases rises to four

Kozhikode: Kozhikode confirmed one more Nipah virus infection. Nipah virus was confirmed in a 39-year-old man under observation in the hospital. He also sought treatment in a private hospital where Nipah positive persons sought treatment. With this, the number of people under treatment for Nipah has increased to four.

Last day, a 24-year-old health worker in a private hospital was also confirmed to be infected with Nipah. In the examination conducted on Tuesday, it was confirmed that two people who died due to fever in the district had Nipah. Apart from this, two people in their contact list are infected.

Meanwhile, the results of all the 11 samples sent to the Pune Virology Lab for testing have come back negative. The number of people in the contact list of confirmed Nipah cases has gone up to 950. 287 of them are health workers.

Restrictions have been tightened in Kozhikode district in the wake of Nipah disease. Masks are mandatory in public places. Gatherings, including places of worship, are strictly prohibited in containment zones. Government employees can also avail the work from home system. The Public Works Minister Muhammad Riaz informed that an all-party meeting will be held today to assess the situation of Nipah.
