BJP MP Sakshi Maharaj nominates Arun Singh as independent candidate against BJP

BJP MP Sakshi Maharaj has reportedly rebelled against his own party a day after the BJP high command revoked the ticket of Arun Singh as party’s candidate for Zilla Panchayath chief. He has made Arun Singh file nomination as an independent candidate, as per reports by Vartha Bharathi.

The details was shared on Twitter by senior journalists, ABP News Editor Pankaj Jha and Rohini Singh.

Following a complaint by the scandalous Unnao Rape case’s victim, Arun Singh’s candidacy was canceled by the party’s high command. It is said that Singh was close to the rape case accused and former MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar.

The Unnao rape victim on Thursday, wrote to President Ram Nath Kovind, PM Narendra Modi, and UP CM Yogi Adityanath, demanding the Saffron party to change its nominee for the Zila panchayat chairman’s post as she said, he is “very close” to jailed former MLA Sengar.

The rape case victim in her letter said, “it is my demand from the party and the government to withdraw Arun Singh’s name and declare someone else as its candidate,” claiming that her life was in danger, if the party gives a ticket to Singh.

The polls for the post of the Zila panchayat chairman are on July 3. Instead of Arun Singh, the BJP replaced him with Shakun Singh.

In 2019, former BJP MLA, Kuldeep Singh Sengar from Unnao’s Bangarmau seat, was accused of rape by the victim. In December 2019, a Delhi court had sentenced Sengar to life time imprisonment in the rape case.
