An incident took place in Chikmagalur where a young lawyer who came without wearing a helmet on a two-wheeler was cornered in the police station and 6 policemen including the PSI were suspended in connection with the incident.
A young lawyer named Pritam was riding a two-wheeler on the market road without a helmet on Thursday night. The Chikkamagaluru city police stopped in front of the police station and snatched the key from his bike. Later, they took him to the police station, not only cornered him but also attacked him at will.
District Superintendent of Police Vikram Amate has informed that in connection with this incident, six policemen including Chikmagalur City Police Station PSI Mahesh Pujari have been suspended from duty.

Pritam, a young lawyer who was abused by the police, who has stated the incident, said, “I was going on the market road without a helmet on Thursday night. It stopped because the police stopped it. He immediately took the bike key. I will be fined for not wearing a helmet, who authorized you to take away the key? I said I am a lawyer. I also made a video of it.’
The police, who were angry because of this, later took me inside the police station. They huddled in the computer room and attacked them with sticks, and pipes. Pritam said that they trampled him with his feet.
After learning about the incident, the lawyers of Chikkamagaluru gathered in front of the police station. Later, Pritam admitted him to the hospital and treated him.
Pritam suffered multiple injuries on his chest, hands, and back, further infuriating the lawyers’ group. They staged a dharna in front of the police station throughout the night and expressed their anger against the police who assaulted them.
Senior police officers who reached the spot tried to pacify the lawyer. Chikmagalur SP has stated that ‘A case of attempted murder has been registered against six policemen including the sub-inspector and assistant sub-inspector of the station. So many people have been suspended from duty. The DySP has been instructed to investigate the entire case and submit a report.
In the meantime, lawyers have protested against the actions of the police. Apart from the district, hundreds of lawyers are coming to Chikmagalur from outside districts as well.
An emergency meeting was held in the lawyers’ association and they warned that the struggle would continue until the arrest of the accused policemen. Heavy security has been arranged in the city as the protest is expected to intensify.
