Delhi university suspends two for watching banned BBC documentary on Modi

A PhD scholar, Lokesh Chugh and another student named Ravinder of Delhi University, were suspended for watching the banned BBC documentary, India: the Modi Question. The scholars have been debarred for a year from sitting for any university, college, or departmental exams.

Reacting to the news Congress MP, Shashi Tharoor tweeted that he was ‘appalled’ at the extreme step taken by the university.

He tweeted, “As a @Delhiuniversit alum committed to academic freedom & independence of thought, I am appalled by this shocking decision. To suspend a student for two years for watching a documentary in a democracy is a disgrace & a betrayal of everything a university should stand for. Shame!”

Lokesh Chugh serves as the Congress party-affiliated National Students’ Union of India’s (NSUI) national secretary.
