New Delhi: Following the steep rise in the Covid cases in the country and also considering that people are failing to follow Covid protocols in West Bengal where the assembly polls are taking place, the Election Commission of India has decided to ban all road shows and rallies during the campaigning for the remaining two phase of polls as the state has already finished six phases.
Adding more restrictions the EC has also barred all public meetings that has gathering of more than 500 people.
These now guidelines have been issues in the wake many candidates of different political parties not following any Covid protocol which is said to become a result of increase in the Covid cases in the Bengal.
In the order, the EC said that it has noted with anguish that many political parties/candidates are still not adhering to prescribed safety norms during the public gatherings. Therefore the decision has been taken to bring some curbs in rallies.
