Ex-chief of Intel India dies after his cycle gets hit by speeding car in Navi Mumbai

Former Intel India country head Avtar Saini died after a speeding cab hit him while he was cycling in Navi Mumbai, police said on Thursday.

The accident happened early morning at about 5:55 am on Wednesday when Saini, who was 68 years old was riding his bicycle along with his fellow cyclists on the Palm Beach Road in the Nerul area, an official stated. There was a speeding cab on the road that hit Saini’s bicycle from behind. After hitting the bicycle, the driver of the cab tried to escape the accident spot. While escaping, the broken frame of the bicycle wedged under the front wheels of the cab, the official added.

Saini received multiple injuries and he was thereby taken to a nearby hospital by his fellow cyclists where he was declared dead on arrival, the official said. Saini had been a resident of suburban Chembur, was credited with working on the Intel 386 and 486 microprocessors.

A case has been registered and an FIR against a cab driver under various Indian Penal Code sections and different provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act have been lodged. As of now, the accused has not been arrested by the police. A search is underway to nab the driver, an official from NRI police station said.
