India and UAE Sign Civil Nuclear Cooperation Agreement During Abu Dhabi Crown Prince’s Visit

New Delhi: India and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) signed a memorandum of understanding for civil nuclear cooperation during the visit of Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Khalid bin Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to New Delhi.

The agreement was signed between India’s Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) and the Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC), which oversees operations at the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant.

This marks a significant step in bilateral cooperation following the 2015 understanding reached during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the UAE, where both nations agreed to collaborate on the peaceful use of nuclear energy in sectors like security, health, agriculture, and technology.

The NPCIL-ENEC deal is a strategic part of the UAE’s plan to expand investments in nuclear energy. Diplomatic sources noted that this agreement, which had been in discussion for some time, was finalized during the Crown Prince’s visit.
