Maulana Umar Gautam, and his associate Jahangir Alam were arrested for allegedly being part of a nationwide religious conversion racket.

Umar Gautam’s daughter in an interview with New18 Urdu denied all the allegations against her father. She said 1000 conversions which happened were not forcefully, they happened with the will of people.

“Those people came to my father’s office for legal documents. Similarly the deaf and dumb had come for affidavit. My father neither called them nor invited them. They came with their own will and later my father had no communication with them,” she added.

Talking about vulnerable societies, she said that her father, Gautam believes in upliftment and empowerment. “He is a motivational speaker, he used to give speeches to remove misconceptions and show that Islam is a religion of peace and love. He never showed Islam is superior or Hinduism is inferior. Instead he wanted to build a bridge between Hindus and Muslims.”

Talking about forceful conversions, she said, “my mother is a reverted Muslim now. But when my father got married to her, he never forced her to convert. It was my mother’s choice to accept Islam. My father never forced me to wear burqa, or my brother to keep a beard. He never forced us to follow Islam,” she asserted.

“Even when my cousins, uncles and aunts, everyone comes to our home to stay with us, my father never spoke to them about Islam. He only focused on manners, morality and take care of them.”

Remembering the day of Gautam’s arrest she said, “when was father was summoned by police, they themselves told my father was a noble man. We only thought they called him to ask questions.” In addition she said, “we have documents and affidavits forms and my father is very transparent, clean. We have all the evidence.
