SP has shown BJP’s seats can be reduced: Akhilesh Yadav

Samajwadi Party supremo Akhilesh Yadav thanked his voters on Friday for increasing the votes and seats of his party in the 2022 Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls.

Thanking his voters in a tweet, the former Chief Minister said, “Hearty thanks to the people of UP for increasing our seats by two and a half times and vote percentage by one and a half times.”

“We have shown that BJP seats can be reduced. This reduction of BJP will continue unabated. More than half the confusion and delusion has been cleared, the rest will happen in a few days,” he said adding, “The struggle for public interest will win!”

In his first Assembly election, Yadav secured more than 60,000 votes from Karhal seat in Uttar Pradesh’s Mainpuri.

During the 2022 assembly elections, the Samajwadi Party has increased its vote share in the state to 31.8%, which is an increase of almost 10% from the 21.8% vote share it had got in the 2017 elections.

SP has won 111 seats, emerging as the second-largest party in Uttar Pradesh. The SP-led alliance secured 125 seats in the elections with the Rashtriya Lok Dal bagging 8 seats and the Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party winning 6.

BJP election with a huge margin by securing victory on 255 seats, while the BJP-led alliance got 273 seats.
