Prime Minister Narendra Modi criticized the leaders of the India Alliance for performing ‘mujra’ (a traditional dance) to secure their vote bank. Addressing an election rally in Bihar’s Pataliputra, he said, “All India wants to accept the slavery of its vote bank. But for us, the Constitution is supreme. I will not allow the reservation benefits given to SC/ST, OBCs to be taken away by the Constitution of India.”
Modi reassured the SC/ST/OBC communities in Bihar, stating, “As long as Modi is alive, I will not allow your rights to be taken away. The Constitution is supreme for Modi, and Babasaheb Ambedkar’s sentiments are supreme for Modi. The India Alliance wants to take advantage of its vote bank, and if they want to do mujra, they are free to do so. I have always stood for SC, ST, OBC reservation.”
PM Modi used the word ‘mujra’ in his speech, referring to a dance form that originated during the Mughal era, often performed by women in the courts of kings and nobles, and popularized in Hindi movies of the 1960s.
Modi accused Congress of changing laws related to minority institutions to please its vote bank, stating, “Earlier, SC/ST/OBCs were getting full reservation. Later, thousands of institutions were declared as minority institutions. Our Constitution says there will be no reservation based on religion in India. Babasaheb Ambedkar said there should be no reservation based on religion. But RJD-Congress wants to give reservation to their vote bank based on religion by ending SC, ST, OBC quota.”
Last month, Prime Minister Modi sparked controversy by claiming that the Congress would take away the wealth of the country’s people and distribute it to those with many children. His recent statement about ‘mujra’ has opened another controversy.
