We are open to the possibility of an alliance with JDS – AIMIM Chief

Asaduddin Owaisi, who is in charge of the AIMIM, wants to run candidates in about 25 Karnataka assembly seats. He is also thinking about forming an electoral alliance with the Janata Dal (Secular), according to AIMIM state unit president Osman Ghani.

Party chief Owaisi said, “We have announced three candidates so far and are open to the possibility of an alliance.” In the 2018 assembly elections, AIMIM supported JDS and did not field any candidates.

When asked about possible alliances, Owaisi said that Congress was not interested in an alliance because of the baseless allegations levelled against him. Owaisi criticised the Basavaraj Bommai government’s recent decision to remove the four per cent reservation for
Muslims in the OBC category call it “absolutely illegal”. He expressed outrage that no significant protests or statements were made by secular leaders and parties. Why is the issue of the division of Muslim votes being raised only with AIMIM?

AIMIM did not field any candidates in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections in Karnataka. Congress managed to win only one seat, Owaisi said.
