Israel’s ‘Bawaal’ over Bawaal movie

The Israeli Embassy in India has condemned the “trivialization” of the Holocaust in the recently released Bollywood movie ‘Bawaal’. The Embassy took to social media to put out a statement on the matter.

The Israeli Embassy in its statement wrote, “There was a poor choice in the utilization of some terminology in the movie, and though we assume no malice was intended, we urge everyone who may not be fully aware of the horrors of the Holocaust to educate themselves about it”

Taking objection to one of the dialogues, “Every relationship goes through its Auschwitz” referring to the concentration camps in Auschwitz, where Jews were kept by Hitler’s regime and where lakhs of Jews died, several Israeli NGOs pointed out that the movie demeans victims of holocaust. Several NGOs are demanding the removal of the movie from Amazon Prime.

In this Sajid Nadiadwala film, the main character of the movie, Ajay or Ajju Bhaiyya, embarks on a trip to Europe to educate his students about the tragedies of World War 2. Along the way, he confronts similarities between his estranged relationship with his wife and the events of the war.
