4 Bihar labourers die of suffocation inside septic tank in Surat

Four migrant labourers hailing from Bihar died on Tuesday due to suffocation, while working inside a septic tank in a village in Surat, as reported by the police officials. The incident took place at a dyeing factory on Palsana-Katodara road in Surat.

The preliminary investigation also suggests that at first, two labourers were found unconscious while they were cleaning the septic tank which prompted other two persons to go and rescue them, the police office who was aware about the matter said. The victims hailing from Bihar are yet to be identified as the process of identification is under process, the police officials added.

H L Rathore, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Bardoli Division, said that the senior officials of the factory are being questioned by them. “Four workers had gone to clean the (septic) tank and died due to suffocation. Further investigation is underway. We are questioning seniors of the factory…All the four deceased are the residents of Bihar…,” DSP Rathore told ANI.

The police had arrived at the scene during the early hours of Wednesday after having received a phone call at 6:30 in the morning, and found the unconscious state of the migrant workers. After extracting them from the septic tank, they were immediately rushed to the hospital, where they were declared dead by the doctors on their arrival.

“We received a call at 6:30 am on Wednesday following which a team reached the spot and discovered that four workers had allegedly died due to suffocation,” reported ANI quoting an official.
The deceased workers have been living in a colony provided by the factory, he added.
