46 Arrested After Violent Clashes During Ganesh Idol Procession in Mandya

Mandya, Karnataka (PTI): Following violent clashes between two groups during a Ganesh idol procession in Nagamangala town, 46 individuals were arrested, police reported on Thursday. The altercation, which occurred Wednesday night, left several people injured, including two police officers, due to stone pelting.

To maintain order, additional security forces have been deployed, and prohibitory orders preventing gatherings of more than four people are in effect until September 14. Mandya Superintendent of Police Mallikarjun Baldandi confirmed that the situation is now under control, with normalcy restored in the town.

The clashes erupted when an argument broke out during the Ganesha procession near a place of worship, leading to stone pelting, vandalism, and vehicles being set on fire. Police used mild force to disperse the crowd, and a case has been registered under multiple charges, including unlawful assembly and attempt to murder.
