AIMPLB dissolves its Women’s Wing

All India Muslim Personal Law Board ( AIMPLB) dissolved its Women’s Wing in a letter dated 11th October. The Board did not specify any reason or justifications for taking such a step.

An array of Whatsapp forwards questioning the move began to circulate on social media. After which AIMPLB’s Qasim Rasool Ilyas while expressing his dismay said that the move was taken to set rules and limits for the Women’s wing until which it stands suspended, and to accommodate women in different departments.

The Women’s Wing formed in 2015 was headed by Dr. Asma Zehra now stands dissolved. The Women’s Wing members were not consulted before taking such a step, they were directed to delete all its social media accounts and not use its name in any form, online or offline.

Women members and women associated with them across India are disturbed by this news.
