New Delhi (PTI): Air India will resume its scheduled flights from Delhi to Dhaka on Wednesday and is considering operating a special flight to repatriate passengers from the Bangladeshi capital, sources indicate. Vistara and IndiGo will also run their scheduled services to Dhaka on the same day, despite ongoing unrest in the city.
On Tuesday, Air India ran its evening flight to Dhaka after canceling the morning service due to the volatile situation in Bangladesh. The country has been in turmoil recently, with former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigning on Monday amidst massive protests. These demonstrations initially started as a protest against a job quota scheme but evolved into a widespread movement calling for her removal.
According to sources, Air India will operate its two daily flights from Delhi to Dhaka as planned on Wednesday and may add a special flight to assist with the evacuation of passengers. Vistara and IndiGo will also resume their services to Dhaka from Wednesday. Vistara typically operates daily flights from Mumbai and three weekly services from Delhi to Dhaka, while IndiGo usually runs one daily flight each from Delhi, Mumbai, and Chennai to Dhaka, and two daily services from Kolkata.
On Tuesday evening, Air India confirmed it would operate flight AI237/238 on the Delhi-Dhaka-Delhi route. The airline has also introduced a one-time waiver for rescheduling fees for passengers with confirmed bookings on flights to and from Dhaka between August 4 and 7. This waiver applies to tickets booked on or before August 5.
