Annamalai is unfit to be BJP state president- AIADMK Leader Jayakumar

The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have not yet officially announced their partnership for the 2019 elections, which is a fresh occurrence in Tamil Nadu’s political scene. This uncertainty stems from a statement made by AIADMK leader D. Jayakumar, who questioned the BJP’s intentions and criticized the Tamil Nadu BJP President, K. Annamalai.

Addressing reporters at a press conference held in Chennai today, D. Jayakumar stated firmly, “BJP is not in alliance with AIADMK. We will decide about the alliance during the elections only. This is not my personal view. This is our party’s stand.”

Jayakumar’s comments have created a stir in the political circles of Tamil Nadu, as the alliance between the BJP and AIADMK had been a topic of speculation for some time. While many BJP cadres in the state have expressed their desire for an alliance with AIADMK, the Tamil Nadu BJP President, K. Annamalai, appears to hold a contrary view.

“He always criticises our leaders. He is unfit to be BJP state president,” Jayakumar added, referring to Annamalai’s public criticisms of AIADMK leaders.

The BJP and AIADMK had previously formed an alliance for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections and the 2021 Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly elections. However, the current situation seems to indicate a rift between the two parties, raising questions about their prospects in the upcoming polls.

Both parties have significant political clout in Tamil Nadu, with AIADMK having a strong historical presence and BJP striving to expand its footprint in the state. The uncertainty surrounding their alliance could impact the electoral landscape and the distribution of seats in the upcoming elections
