Assam: Tricolor hoisted upside down at BJP office: Case registered

An FIR has been registered against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president of Assam state for allegedly hoisting the tricolor upside down during the Independence Day celebrations at the BJP headquarters in Guwahati.

Three persons from Assam’s Nagaon district have filed a complaint against state BJP chief Bhabesh Kalita. The complainant said that the BJP leaders knew that the tricolor flag was kept upside down but they hoisted the flag. The BJP state president has insulted the national flag. Immediately we filed a complaint demanding an investigation into the matter.

Some pictures of the incident have gone viral on social media. Nagaon District Superintendent of Police Nabaneet Mahanta has commented on this and said that they have received a complaint about the incident, but no case has been registered as the incident took place in Guwahati, which is not their jurisdiction.

Three locals filed a complaint about the incident. We have forwarded it to Guwahati police station as the SP said that according to the complainant the incident took place there.

The Assam BJP responded to this and the workers were given the responsibility of preparing for hoisting the flag. The state president does not know that the tricolor flag is upside down. He said that when the mistake was found, it was corrected immediately.
