Backlash in Cauvery issue: Management authority says 3 thousand cusecs of water should be released daily

Amid the Karnataka bandh, the state has faced another shock. Cauvery Water Management Authority (CWMA) has ordered to release 3 thousand cusecs of water per day.

In the meeting held on 26th Cauvery Water Control Committee (CWRC) an order was issued to release 3 thousand cusecs of water daily till 15th. Disgruntled by this, the Karnataka government approached the Cauvery Water Management Authority, an organisation not above the Cauvery Water Control Committee, and asked them to review the order given by the control committee.

On the other hand, Tamil Nadu had approached the authority on the order of the control committee and submitted that it should be ordered to release 12,500 cusecs of water per day from Karnataka.

To hear the arguments of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, the authority held a meeting on 29th afternoon. The Karnataka government has been instructed to follow the decision given by the control committee on 26th. Due to this, Karnataka has suffered a severe setback in the meeting of the authorities.

In the meeting of the authority held on 29th, the Government of Karnataka presented a strong argument. Karnataka has been consistently following the orders of the Cauvery Authority and the Cauvery Water Control Committee, due to which the Cauvery reservoirs in Karnataka are slowly depleting. People’s anger is also increasing. Due to this, there are continuous protests and bandhs in the state.
