Bill Gates pays a visit to a slum in Bhubaneswar, engaging in meaningful interactions with its residents

On Wednesday morning, Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates visited a slum in Bhubaneswar, engaging with the residents. Accompanied by state government officials, Gates toured the Biju Adarsh Colony in the Maa Mangla Basti area.

During his visit, Gates not only inquired about the well-being of the slum dwellers but also interacted with members of women’s self-help groups (SHGs) operating in the area.

State Development Commissioner Anu Garg highlighted that they showcased to Gates the various amenities provided to the slum residents, such as land rights, tap water connections, toilets, and electricity. Gates expressed satisfaction at the transformation of the slum into a model colony.

G. Mathi Vathanan, State Urban Development Secretary, mentioned that Gates conversed with beneficiaries of different government welfare schemes.

A resident of the colony shared that Gates personally engaged with them, inquiring about the improvements in their lifestyle due to the implemented schemes.

Gates, who arrived in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday, is scheduled to meet Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik later in the day. Various departments of the state government collaborate with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
