Bus carrying polling staff meets accident, 20 injured

MUDDEBIHAL; 23 Dec: The bus carrying polling staff of Gram Panchayat elections, met with an accident at Gaddalmeri village after hitting the lorry.

The accident took place at around 8:00 pm on Tuesday when the polling staff were heading to the counting centre of MGVC college of Muddebihal town.

According to the District Administration, a total of 20 polling officials injured in the accident, ten of them referred to different hospitals for treatment while the remaining ten were sent home after first aid. The driver of the bus is severely injured on his leg, he was sent to hospital. The driver is said to be out of danger.

Meanwhile, after the accident, the driver of the lorry driver fled from the scene.

The bus was carrying polling officials who had gone for polling duty to Hullur, Koppa and Siddapur GP.

When the bus was around 5 klm away from the town, the accident took place. Both vehicles sustained heavy damage.

Later, police and revenue officials visited the spot to monitor the situation. The polling materials were taken into custody and kept safely.
