The Special Cell of the Delhi Police has questioned about 25 journalists and donors of NewsClick for the second time in connection with the UAPA case filed against online news portal NewsClick.
An official said that the investigation in the case is still going on and nobody has been given a clean chit so far.
46 people including 9 women journalists were interrogated on the day when the special unit of the Delhi Police raided several places related to persons connected to the News Click website elsewhere in Delhi. After this, everyone was called for the second round of interrogation. About 25 of them have turned up so far, a police official said.
On October 3, the Delhi Police arrested the portal’s editor-in-chief Prabir Purkayastha and HR(HR) Amit Chakraborty. More than 300 electronic devices were seized from NewsClick offices and residences of journalists associated with the organization.
The electronic devices have been sent to the FSL (Forensic Science Lab) for testing, an official said.
According to information filed by the Delhi Police, which produced Purkayastha and Chakraborty on October 4, Neville Roy Singham, Prabir Purkayastha and Amit Chakraborty were in direct contact with each other and were seen discussing how to create a map of India without Kashmir and show Arunachal Pradesh as a disputed territory. To achieve this objective, the accused have received more than 115 crore rupees in the name of foreign funds in companies named PPK Newsclick, Jispan India, JJ Enterprises, Virtunet System.
Purakayastha and Chakraborty’s 7-day police custody ends today. The two accused are likely to be produced in court this morning and investigators are likely to seek extension of their remand.
