Comedian Munawar Faruqui all set to come back announces new show in Kolkata

Stand-up comedian Munawar Faruqui, whose show was canceled last month in Bengaluru amid protests by some Hindutva right-wing outfits, has announced to perform in Kolkata in January 2021.

Taking it to Instagram on Saturday evening, the comedian shared a link to book tickets for his two-hour comedy act “Dhandho”, to be held on January 16.

In November, the 29-year-old comic’s show was denied permission from Bengaluru Police amid protest by right-wing outfits, who alleged that he had hurt the Hindu sentiments in one of his shows.

He claimed that 12 of his shows were called off in the last two months because of the threats to the venue and audiences.

“My name is Munawar Faruqui. And that’s been my time, you guys were (a) wonderful audience. Good bye, I’m done,” the comedian had tweeted.

Meanwhile, after facing several show cancellations amid controversies, Faruqui on Saturday performed in Mumbai backed by the AIPC, a Congress unit.

Earlier this year, Munawar Faruqui had spent one month in Indore jail after a BJP MLA’s son lodged an FIR in January accusing the comic of hurting religious sentiments through his comedy show.
