BIJAPUR; 16 Jan: The much awaited Covid-19 vaccination programme got underway in the district where indigenously developed Covishield vaccine was administered to health workers in the first phase of the vaccination drive.
Lakshman Kolurgi (57), a group ‘D’ worker of the Health Department became the first person of the city to take the vaccination shot at the District Hospital where the one of the vaccination centres has been set up.
Speaking to media persons after taking the shot, Kolurgi said that he was feeling normal after taking the vaccination. “ I was made to sit for 30 minutes in the observation room to monitor any adverse effect of the vaccine on my health. Since I did not show any such signs, I was sent out of the centre”, he said.
Kolurgi also appealed to other people to get themselves vaccinated without fail to prevent the spreading of Covid pandemic.
According to the district administration, on the first day, a total of 735 were taken for vaccination in the district, however vaccination was administered to 701 beneficiaries while 34 persons could not be vaccinated because of various reasons including health issues.
A total of 15802 beneficiaries have been identified for vaccination in the first phase whose data was already uploaded in the government portal.
The vaccination drive was conducted in a total of eight vaccination centres set up in the district. The district administration hopes to complete the vaccination of all the beneficiaries in a maximum of three days.
Under the supervision of officials such as District Surgeon, the vaccination drive started on Saturday. Deputy Commissioner, P. Sunil Kumar and other officials also visited District Government Hospital for monitoring the vaccination programme.
MLA, Basanagouda Patil Yatnal and Chairman, Karnataka State Seed and Organic Certification Agency, Vijugouda Patil also visited the vaccination centre and collected the details from the officials.
