Bellary: It has been alleged that the warden and watchman of the hostel were constantly assaulting and harassing a Dalit student at a pre-matric boys’ hostel in Bellary City. A case has been registered against the two accused under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
Warden Rudracharya and watchman Manohar Patel had been assaulting YS Diwakar, a student of class IX, for the past six months. It is alleged that he was abusing with unspoken words.
A case has been registered against the two accused at the Gandhinagar police station in Bellary. An FIR has been registered under IPC Sections 323, 324, 504, 506 and Sections 3(1)(r), 3(1)(S), 3(2)(vA) of the ST/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
Regarding the case, Raghu C, State President of the Bhim Army Student Unit, said, “Even in the era of untouchability in the villages, children come from the town to the city with the dream of higher education. They send their parents to the cities because they want their children to get a better education in the cities. However, it is shocking that casteism is also happening in hostels and other areas of cities.
