District Police arrest ‘Supari Killers’, seized car/motorcycle

SP Anupam Agrawal said they murdered a man for having illicit relationship

BIJAPUR; 12 Jan: The District Police have arrested four alleged ‘Supari’ (Contract Killers) on charges of killing a person by collecting Rs. 6 lakh from their client.

Informing this at a press conference on Tuesday, Superintendent of Police, Anupam Agrawal said that the accused who have been arrested are Paigambar Gokavi, Paigambar Kolur, Chandrakant Punnanavar and Sagar Sanjeevgol. All are native of Babaleshwar taluk.

One of the accused, Paigambar Kolur of Babaleshwat town had suspected that her wife Parveen had an illicit relation with Yakub Kolur, one his cousins.

Having not tolerated this, he finally decided to eliminate his cousin with the help of contract killers.

“ The accused offered Rs. 6 lakh to the killers. The accused kills Yakub by strangulating him and dumped his body in Krishna River from Kolhar bridge. The accused also tried to destroy the evidences”, Agrawal said.

Earlier, father of the deceased, Chandbasha Kolur had filed a missing complaint of his son with Babaleshwar police station on August 10 last year.

Subsequently on January 8 this year, he filed another complaint accusing some people of killing his son. Based on the complaint, the police have arrested the accused.

“ During the interrogation, the accused have admitted the crime. They said that the deceased Yakub was taken in the case on the pretext of joyride on 16 August 2021. After which at around 11:30, he was killed by strangulation and the body was later dumped”, he said.

In this connection, a car allegedly used to carry the deceased, a motorcycle some Rs. 11,100 was also recovered from the accused.
