Ex-BJP MLA serving life sentence, released from Naini jail

Former BJP MLA Udaybhan Karwariya, who was serving life term for killing Samajwadi Party’s Legislator MLA Jawahar Yadav in 1996, was released from Naini Central Jail on Thursday morning after he was pardoned by the governor on the basis of his good conduct and behaviour in the jail.

After coming out of the main gate of the jail premises, Udaybhan received a warm welcome by his supporters at around 7:30 am. It should be noted that Former Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) MLA from Bara constituency, Uday Bhan Karwariya is one of the three Karwariya brothers, who were sentenced life imprisonment in the sensational murder of former Samajwadi Party MLA Jawahar Yadav alias Jawahar Pandit. Udaybhan spent over eight years and nine months in jail, said senior government officials.

The state government issued an order on July 19, 2024, for his premature release. The order therefore mentioned that Bhan could be released following his good behaviour when he was lodged in jail. There was also a positive recommendation which was thereby made by the mercy petition committee. The order also read that Bhan would only be released if any other case was not pending against him after submitting two sureties as per the order of district police chief and district magistrate with assurance to not disturb law and order.
