FIR against Alt News co-founder

An FIR has been charged against Mohammed Zubair, in Uttar Pradesh’s Khairabad, Sitapur PS for hurting the “sentiments of Hindus” for calling Yati Narsinghanand, Mahant Bajrang Muni and Anand Swaroop “hatemongers” in a tweet on 27th May.
Yati and Muni have a long history of anti-Muslim hate speech, Muni had called for a mass rape against Muslim women on the occasion of Hindu year in the presence of police, both are currently out on bail.

Based on the complaint of one Bhagwan Sharan, who identifies himself as the district head of Rashtriya Hindu Sher Sena, FIR has been charged against Zubair under Section 295 A of the Indian Penal Code and Section 67 of the Information Technology Act.

Zubair wrote in a Twitter thread about news anchors doing a better job in speaking ill about a religion and a particular community than “hatemongers” Yati, Muni and Swaroop having to organize Dharam sansads (religious meetings) and then speaking ill about that particular community.

Zubair’s tweet:
“Well done @vineetjaintimes! Why do we need Hate Mongers like Yati Narasinghanand Saraswati or Mahant Bajrang Muni or Anand Swaroop to arrange a Dharam Sansad to speak against a community and a Religion when we already have Anchors who can do much better job from News Studios.”

Pratik Sinha, co-founder of Alt News reacting to the FIR lodged against Zubair tweeted “In India, police facilitates harassment of citizens”

Meanwhile, tweetrati started the #istandwithzubair hashtag in support of Zubair.
