Washington: The United Nations Special Officer has informed the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCRF) that the weakening of the fundamental rights of religious and other minorities, especially in India, is a matter of concern.
Fernand de Varennes, a special officer appointed by the United Nations to report on the issue of minorities, said that India’s situation can be described in three words: strong, systematic, and dangerous.
He said that due to the ongoing abuses targeting mainly religious and other minorities like Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, and others, instability, tyranny, and violence are increasing in India.
USCRF chief Abraham Cooper said attacks on tribals, Dalits, Sikhs, Muslims, and Christians have increased in India.
