An internal war has begun in Russia. The Wagner Mercenary, a private military force led by Yevgeny Prigogine, which began with the support of President Putin, has now turned against Putin. The force launched an armed coup and claimed to have captured two Russian cities and shot down three military helicopters.
In his address to the nation, Putin said, “The armed uprising of Wagner’s soldiers is a ‘stab in the back’ and Prigogine has ‘betrayed’ Russia.” Exaggerated ambitions and personal interests led to this treason. They said that those involved in this will be punished accordingly.
The Russian president made the wrong choice during his speech and the country will soon have a new prime minister, Wagner said. The force, which has vowed to bring down Putin, is said to be moving towards Moscow.
Prigogine said that we started the uprising because the Russian military launched a deadly attack on him in Moscow. Saying that they will destroy everything that comes in our way, he said, “This is not a military coup, but a march of justice.”
On the other hand, Putin has appealed to the people to stand by him and claimed that our army is ready to repel the Wagner attack.
Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov is said to have backed Putin and sent Chechen soldiers to fight Wagner’s group.
Ukraine says it perceives this development as fighting each other for money and power.
