Karnataka, Kerala likely to be hit by heavy rain, thunderstorms in the next five days

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has announced that a cyclonic circulation is dissembling over the east-central Arabian Sea off the Karnataka coast, which is most likely to stroll over the territory for the next five days, causing extensive rain to peninsular India, including Kerala.

According to reports, southwesterly winds are also expected to strengthen during the next 2-3 days. During the next 4-5 days, scattered to extensive rainfall or thunderstorm is likely over Karnataka, Kerala, and Mahe, and isolated to sprinkled showers or thunderstorm is over the other parts of south peninsular India under the influence of suitable meteorological conditions.

The IMD said the southwesterly winds could gradually strengthen from June 1, resulting in a likely increase in rainfall activity across Kerala. Therefore the monsoon across Kerala is expected to take place around June 3.

Due to lower-level southwesterly winds’ strengthening, extensive rainfall activity with isolated heavy showers is likely over northeastern states in the next five days.

A western disturbance influences the Western Himalayan region, and lower-level moisture intrusion from the north Arabian Sea to the plains of the northwest is most likely to continue for the next 3-4 days.

During the next five days, no significant change in maximum temperatures is expected. Isolated to scattered rain showers or thunderstorm activity is likely across the western Himalayan territory and adjoining plains of northwest India for the next 4-5 days.
