Mumbai Airport Seizes Smuggled Gold Worth Rs 13.56 Crore; 11 Passengers Arrested

Officials reported that the Customs department seized 22.14 kg of gold, valued at Rs 13.56 crore, smuggled by multiple passengers at Mumbai International Airport.

Between Friday and Sunday, during operations at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, eleven passengers were arrested in connection with 20 cases of gold smuggling.

The confiscated gold was discovered concealed in various ways, including in passengers’ rectums, undergarments, on their bodies, and on a cardboard sheet.

Instances included gold jewelry concealed under a passenger’s burkha and gold bars hidden in undergarments.

Additionally, gold was smuggled in the form of a bangle and a buckle worn as a belt, while one passenger concealed gold dust in wax form within their rectum.
