The Congress on Saturday hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, alleging that the architecture of the new Parliament House has killed democracy and dialogue. BJP alleged that this is an insult to the aspirations of 140 crore Indians.
Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh said the new Parliament House will embody the Prime Minister’s intentions and should be called “Modi Multiplex or Modi Marriott”.
“After the change of government in 2024, the new parliament building can be put to good use,” Ramesh claimed in a post on X.
“Like the Prime Minister, the new Parliament building has also received a lot of publicity. That too is well aware of the Prime Minister’s intentions. It should be called Modi Multiplex or Modi Marriott. What I saw in four days was confusion and death of conversation within and between the two houses. If architecture can kill democracy, the Prime Minister has already succeeded without rewriting the constitution,” said Ramesh.
Reacting to this, BJP president JP Nadda said, “This is a pathetic state of mind even at the lowest level of the Congress party. This is nothing but an insult to the aspirations of 140 crore Indians.”
“Binoculars are required to see each other as the halls are not cozy or compact,” Ramesh alleged.
”The old parliament building had a certain distance and facilitated conversations. Easy to walk between the Houses, Central Hall and Corridors. This weakens the bond necessary for successful functioning of Parliament,” he claimed.
”Gone is the pleasure of just hanging around in Parliament. I was looking forward to going to the old building. The new complex is painful and distressing. I am sure many of my colleagues across the party feel the same,” he said. .
“This is what happens when there is no consultation with the people who use the building,” he said.
