Kadaba: In a heart-wrenching incident that has come to light belatedly, a nurse from Kadaba who provided care to a Nipah virus-infected patient has been in a coma for the past eight months after contracting the virus.
Tittoo Thomas (24), the son of Thomas T.C., a resident of Tumby near Mardhala in Aythuru village of Kadaba taluk, is now battling for his life. A B.Sc. Nursing graduate, Tittoo Thomas has been serving as a nurse at the Iqraa International Hospital and Research Centre in Calicut, Kerala, since 2023. In September 2023, he reportedly cared for a patient infected with the Nipah virus. Two months after being in quarantine, Tittoo experienced severe headaches. A scan in December revealed he had suffered a brain stroke, and he slipped into a coma the following day.
Since then, the hospital administration has been providing treatment. However, with no improvement in his condition over the past eight months, the family was informed that the hospital had already spent around 40 lakh rupees and could not continue bearing the expenses due to the lack of progress in his health.
The family, urging for advanced treatment at a higher medical facility, has approached the Kerala government, seeking their intervention and support. They are currently awaiting a response from the authorities.
