Odisha man kills pregnant wife after quarrel

A man allegedly killed his eight-month pregnant wife, in a fit of rage over an altercation at Ghadabangi village on Friday. The village is under the supervision of Bissamcuttack police limits in Rayagada district.

The accused, Laxman Mandika, (41) has been detained by the police on charges of murdering his wife Rita Mandika (34). Sources revealed that Laxman was addicted to alcohol which was the main reason for the arguments between Laxman and Rita. It was on Friday morning that the couple had a major argument over the same issue and in a fit of rage, Laxman allegedly strangled his wife with a rope.

After killing his wife, Laxman called up Rita’s family and told them that she was sick suddenly and her health was deteriorating rapidly. Upon hearing this, Rita’s family reached Laxman’s house and saw her lying in an unconscious state. She was then taken to Bissamcuttack Community Health Centre (CHC) where the doctors declared her dead.

Sources said that it was the hospital authorities, who suspected a foul play after noticing rope marks on Rita’s neck. The Local police was informed immediately by the concerned hospital authorities. Later, Rita’s body was sent for postmortem. A police official said the accused has been detained and further interrogation is going on.
