Opposition to Board by pro-Kannada outfit upsets Maratahas of Karnataka

“ Please do not spread canards about Marathas, we too are Kannadigas”  

BIJAPUR; 21 Nov: Asserting that the government has announced to set up Maratha Welfare Board for the development of the community and not Marathi language, Kiran Kale, leader of the Maratha community has urged the people not to have misconception about the Board.

Addressing press persons on Saturday, called to welcome the government decision, he said that people who are opposing the formation of the Board should stop giving wrong messages to society.

“ When it comes to protecting Kannada and its culture, majority of the people of Maratha community living in Karnataka have been fighting alongside the pro-Kannada organizations as we believe it is our duty to fight for Kannada and Kannadigas as we are also Kannadigas”, Kale said.

He stated that youths of Maratha community do not even know the actors of Marathi film industry as they are all fans of Kannada actors.

Mentioning about Maharashtra Ekikaran Samiti working in Belagavi, Kale demanded the government to ban the outfit it has been maintaining anti-Karnataka stands since its formation.

“ Let us make it clear, we don’t support MES in any manner. Only some people associated with the organsiaiton in Belagavi are supporting but majority of them have nothing to do with MES. We welcome the decision of the government if it bans MES in Karnataka”, he asserted.

Parashuram Rajput, district president of Karnataka Shatriya Okkuta said that for generations, people of Rajput and Maratha community are living in Karnataka as they are an integral part of the State. He too welcomed the decision of the government to form a development board for Marathas.
