Parents refuse to send children to Anganwadi in Bidar because the teacher is a Dalit Woman

Bidar : As a Dalit woman Ambika was appointed as a teacher of Anganwadi centre in Balahalli (W) village of Bhalki taluk, there are allegations that parents are not sending their children to Anganwadi

Anganwadi centre which is 13 km away from Taluk Centre is located in a distant village and does not have its own building.

“I was appointed last year. I went door to door to all houses in the village and appealed to send children. However, parents are not sending their children.”

Ambika, an Anganwadi worker, expressed her frustration that she is cooking by herself because there is no helper.

Bhalki Child Development Project Officer Srinivasa Baluwale told ‘Prajavani’ that they will visit the centre with the president and leaders of Gram Panchayat in the next two days. He also said that we have visited the Ballahalli (W) centre earlier and parents have been briefed about the situation but it is a pity that they are still not sending their children.
