PM Modi unveils India’s 1st underwater Metro route & projects worth Rs 15,400 crore

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of various projects worth ₹15,400 crore in Kolkata on Wednesday. This foundation is a part of his visit to 12 states and union territories (UTs) in 10 days.

This is the PM’s second visit to West Bengal within a period of only five days. He inaugurated multiple projects in Kolkata. PM Narendra Modi inaugurated the Howrah Maidan-Esplanade section of the East-West corridor of Kolkata Metro, which signals India’s first venture into underwater Metro services.

There were other train services also that were flagged off by the PM. The projects included- the Taratala-Majerhat Metro sections and the Kavi Subhash-Hemanta Mukhopadhyay. Later, today in the afternoon, PM Modi is also expected to address a public rally West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district, Barasat where Sandeshkhali is situated.

The Prime Minister also met West Bengal Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee at the Raj Bhavan in Kolkata. This meeting was called as a “courtesy meeting” by Banerjee as it took place as a part of protocol.
