Wayanad: A massive landslide in Kerala’s Wayanad has claimed 84 lives, with the death toll continuing to rise. Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi are set to visit the disaster site tomorrow, sources have confirmed.
Rahul Gandhi, a former MP of Wayanad, has been actively involved in coordinating rescue efforts. He spoke with Defense Minister Rajnath Singh over the phone, urging for enhanced rescue operations in the severely affected area. In a post on social media platform X, Gandhi expressed his deep sorrow over the incident, offering condolences to the families of the victims and expressing hope for the safe rescue of those still trapped.
Gandhi also communicated with the Kerala Chief Minister and the Wayanad District Collector to assure them that rescue operations are being prioritized.
Congress General Secretary (Organization) KC Venugopal emphasized the need for unity and collective effort during this crisis. “We must work together to save as many lives as possible. Both Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra are planning to visit Wayanad to assess the situation and support the rescue operations,” he said.
Venugopal further confirmed that Defense Minister Rajnath Singh has promised full cooperation in the rescue efforts following his conversation with Rahul Gandhi.
