New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has launched a scathing attack on the Modi government, accusing it of undermining the Constitution by recruiting public servants through the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) instead of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). He claimed that this practice aims to end reservation for SC, ST, and OBC categories by privatizing the Indian Administrative Service (IAS).
In a recent tweet, Gandhi stated, “Narendra Modi is attacking the Constitution by recruiting public servants through ‘Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh’ instead of the Union Public Service Commission. The reservation of SC, ST, and OBC categories is being openly snatched away by recruiting through lateral entry on important posts in various central government ministries.”
He expressed concerns that the underprivileged groups are being further excluded from top positions in the country’s bureaucracy, which already lacks representation from these communities. According to Gandhi, lateral entry appointments in key government ministries are robbing talented youth preparing for the UPSC exams of their rightful opportunities.
The Congress leader cited the recent appointment of a private sector individual as the chairperson of SEBI as an example of the potential dangers of such a policy, warning that corporate representatives in government positions could undermine social justice.
Gandhi added, “INDIA will strongly oppose this anti-national move which hurts both the administrative structure and social justice. ‘Privatisation of IAS’ is ‘Modi’s guarantee’ to end reservation.”
This criticism comes in the wake of a report by TOI stating that the UPSC has advertised 45 mid-level posts, including director, joint secretary, and deputy secretary positions, to be filled through lateral entry. Gandhi has accused the government of using this method to dismantle the reservation system for Dalits, OBCs, and Adivasis.
