Religious Minority Certificate not in correct format: Career Guidance Counsellor

A career guidance counselor Umar UH submitted a memorandum to the Dakshina Kannada deputy commissioner KV Rajendra highlighting error regarding the issuance of caste certificates to minority community candidates who want to pursue medical and dental courses.

Umar UH, chairman of Career Guidance and Information Centre, Mangalore said that the certificate has to be given under appendix 4a, but some tahsildars are following their own format which is not accepted by Karnataka Examination Authority.

Minority candidates need to produce religious minority certificates to get into religious minority institutions under quota seats, which is issued by the tahsildars, he said.

Umar has complained regarding this issue to the Southern Kannada District Collector and the Executive Director of the Karnataka Testing Authority. In his petition, the government order (MWD 330 MDS 2020 Bangalore Date: 13-06-2020) to certify in the prescribed format, Tahsildar, who had given certification to hundreds of students in Appendix 4A last year, is enrolling students this year.

Talking to THG Umar said, “Last year the Minority certificates were issued as prescribed by the state government order. However, tahsildars are not issuing the same certificates this year. When several parents questioned about the format, they said it is the same format.”

“The current format is not accepted at KEA and many candidate who aspire to get into medical education will face problems during the counseling, as the NEET results are due next week. This issue needs to be taken into consideration soon.” he said.

Students who wrote the NEET exam and are preparing documents for online counseling and have been mocked by some tehsildars, the career guidance counselor said.

Umar also noted that DC Rajendra has assured that the issue will be addressed. However, he said that issue hasn’t been addressed till now. He urged to take appropriate action regarding the issue.
